Yesterday I volunteered at Farm Sanctuary in Woodstock NY - an extraordinary tranquil place with extraordinary people who care for these farm animals. All of the animals come from a sad backdrop of neglect, abuse, and/or slaughterhouses. Now they are in a peaceful place where they can freely roam, eat grass and feel safe.
As much as I wanted to visit all the animals when I arrived, I instead put my arms and back to work. For five hours I raked and pitchforked the fields and barns and LOVED every minute of it. Any bit of volunteer help is always appreciated as there is so much work to be done.
if you want to visit a zoo - visit a the sanctuary instead where you can meet the animals up close and hear their stories.
check out the link below to hear about their mission and the stories behind the animals - most of them I was lucky enough to meet.
Later at the end of the day I was able to snap a few of the lucky animals.
